My vision has become cloudy over time. Could it be cataracts?

While not everyone experiences the same changes, there are common vision conditions that occur during your lifetime.

Nearsightedness

Nearsightedness, or myopia, is a common eye condition where you can see better up close than far away. You are able to see clearly when focusing on objects like reading or looking at the computer screen, but struggle to see things like street signs or objects in the distance.

Presbyopia

Presbyopia is a decreased ability to see nearby objects, especially in low light. Everyone will become presbyopic, usually starting around the age of 40; however, the condition can be improved with eye surgery.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a variation in the curvature of the cornea or in the shape of the eye's lens. Astigmatism results in blurred or distorted vision at all distances. Laser vision correction can address corneal astigmatism.

Dry Eye

Dry Eye is a condition in which a person does not have enough quality tears to lubricate and nourish the eye. Dry Eye is a common problem, particularly in older adults. Treatment for dry eye symptoms can help before cataract or laser vision correction procedures.

Cataracts

Cataracts occur when the normally clear lens of the eye becomes cloudy. As aging occurs, protein from the lens clumps together, causing blurring, clouding, and discoloration of the lens. Cataracts are the #1 cause of preventable blindness.1
